Grew up in suburban Bay Area. Followed a trajectory in architecture starting in the 80s through the present working in both southern and northern ends of California. Started painting over 20 years ago in acrylic before switching to oil. I like to work wet on wet.
I never start a painting with a preconceived concept or image. I believe in not over thinking a painting and apply the paint by instinct. My inspiration draws from the subconscious. Another reality exists deep in my brain that I only experience flickering glimpses in dreams. I want to drag those alternate worlds into the open. The best art to me always draws from something deeply personal within the artist.
My work from the last several years has been blending drawing with traditional oil painting techniques. I’ve been playing with two and three dimensional elements in the compositions to get spatial qualities that have a tension between drawn line and rendered objects.
